We have a bit of a running joke about our name. On the surface, The Simple Folk sounds like we’ve figured it all out, like we’re living in a constant state of unplugged, barefoot bliss. And while there is so much simplicity in how we move, mostly because we’ve found that rare, quiet alignment between our values and our work, we are also humans.
Being human is, by definition, a bit of a mess.
It’s easy to feel like you're overthinking things when you hold yourself to a high standard that doesn’t quite match the rest of the world. When you’re the one asking a thousand questions about dye fixatives while everyone else is just looking at the price tag, you start to wonder if you’re making life harder than it needs to be. But there is a specific kind of peace that comes from trusting your gut so much that the "hard" things actually start to feel easy.
When you know your non-negotiables, the world gets quieter. Decisions that look complicated to others become the only logical path forward for us.
A few things we keep simple because we trust they’re the right way home:
The Mother-Tested rule -
Our designer is quite literally running around with three kids. If she wouldn't put a piece on them for a nap or a long day of play, it doesn't get made.
Choosing our partners -
We work with people who share our standards. Thoughtful materials, considered processes, and relationships built with intention.
Saying no to the hidden stuff -
Our pieces sit close to the skin, so we’re mindful of what goes into them. We leave out harsh dyes and unnecessary treatments, simply because it’s the right choice.
At the end of the day, we aren't chasing perfection. We’re just choosing the version of "simple" that lets us sleep better at night. It turns out that when you stop trying to follow everyone else's rules, life gets a lot clearer.
